The Golden Whiskey Triangle

During the 18th and 19th centuries, The Liberties was home to the largest concentration of breweries and distilleries in Ireland. There were so many whiskey producers that the area became known as the “Golden Whiskey Triangle”. The Irish whiskey produced here was popular the world over and gained an excellent reputation for quality. In the mid-20th century, most of the local distilleries closed leaving only the iconic Guinness Brewery at St. James’s Gate. However, recent years have seen a resurgence in the local industry and there are now several craft breweries and whiskey distilleries that call The Liberties home.
We are big fans of locally produced whiskey, or uisce beatha (Irish for “water of life”) as it was called in the Middle Ages. To celebrate the history of the whiskey distilling industry in the area and the distilleries that are active today we created a unique “Whiskey Wall” which you’ll see in our Lobby when you arrive at the hotel.
